Dr. Nicole Detling, CMPC has been in private practice for over 25 years working with high performing athletes, coaches, teams, businesses, and performers to develop their mental toughness. With a PhD in Exercise and Sport Science, emphasis in Psychosocial Aspects of Sport (a.k.a., sport psychology), Nicole was also a college professor at an R1 institution (University of Utah) for nine years where she conducted research on various aspects of mental toughness (e.g., resiliency, injury, burnout, promoting physical activity in the community, etc.).
Dr. Detling was a fully-credentialed member of Team USA at two Olympic Games (Vancouver 2010 with US Speedskating and Sochi 2014 with US Ski and Snowboard). To date, 41 Olympic and Paralympic athletes she has worked with have won medals at their respective Games. She has worked with athletes in the NFL, MLB, PGA, NHL, NBA, WNBA, MLS, NWSL, MLR as well as professional athletes in cycling, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Nicole was with the University of Utah athletic department for 7 years working with all 19 teams. She was also contracted with Real Salt Lake (MLS), Real Monarchs (nd team), and Utah Royals (NWSL) for three years. She spent 6 years as the Director of Mental Performance with USA Nordic Sports (ski jumping and Nordic combined). Nicole currently works with the US Para Archery team and Ballet West (professional ballet company). Dr. Detling founded and operates HeadStrong Consulting, LLC, a company focused on helping performers from all disciplines master mental toughness.
