Nutrition for Brain Health and Recovery- Panel and Cooking Demonstration – Thurs @ 7:30 am

How does a healthy brain influence performance, recovery, and daily life? This engaging and dynamic session, led by experts in brain health, explores the critical role of brain health in achieving excellence. The panel discussion introduces the science  to optimize brain function, enhancing peak performance, accelerating recovery, and building resilience in both high-pressure environments and everyday life. Dr. Stephanie Peabody, Founding Director of the Brain Health Initiative, Harvard faculty member leading three brain health courses—Lifestyle Medicine for Brain Health and Performance, Women’s Brain Health, and Culinary and Nutritional Neuroscience—and a Neuropsychologist, joins Dr. Michael Jaffee, Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida, Medical Director of the Brain Health Initiative, and a renowned expert in brain injury and sleep medicine, to share insights from their collaboration with the USA Olympic and Paralympic medical team as they prepared elite athletes for the challenges of the most recent games and beyond. Together, they will demonstrate how optimizing brain health is a cornerstone for enhancing human performance, accelerating recovery from injury, and promoting overall well-being across the lifespan. The discussion will explore practical applications of brain health science, focusing on the role of nutrition and lifestyle medicine in enhancing resilience and reducing vulnerability to injury. Chef Marshall Shafkowitz, Executive Director of Brightwater, will demonstrate brain-healthy culinary techniques in an interactive segment, joined by Qadry Ismail, Super Bowl Champion Wide Receiver and Founder of Missile Training, who will share his personal and professional experiences in optimizing performance and recovery through brain health. This session will explore the science of enhancing brain health, optimizing brain performance, and reducing the risk of brain illness and enhancing recovery from injury in both everyday and high-performance contexts. Participants will gain actionable insights to unlock their full potential while empowering others to achieve the same. This panel and cooking demonstration is hosted by the Brightwater Center for the Study of Food. Panelists include Neuropsychologist Stephanie Peabody, PSYD, HSPP, who is the Founder/Executive Director of the Brain Health Initiative and a Harvard Faculty member. Joining Dr. Peabody will be Dr. Michael Jaffee, MD, FAAN, FANA. Dr. Jaffee is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Florida. The cooking demonstration will be led by Chef Marshall Shafkowitz, WCEC, CEC, CCE, MAT, Executive Director of Brightwater with Qadry Ismail, Super Bowl Champion Wide Receiver from the Baltimore Ravens, a 10 Year NFL Veteran, and the Founder/Head Movement Instructor at Missile Training in Maryland.
